Fitzpatrick Property Trail Closure AKA Connector Trail Effective immediately until further notice The Fitzpatrick property aka “connector trail” has been closed to bicycle traffic until further notice. The trail will remain open to foot traffic. Closure of this trail is necessary due to deed restrictions that specifically prohibit bicycle use on this property. This is definitely bad news, except for the fact that the Department of Natural Resources, Mississippi Valley Conservancy, City of La Crosse Parks Department and HPT have all been working diligently and collaboratively to solve this issue to remove the deed restriction prohibiting this user group. It is imperative that until the deed restriction issue is resolved, users on bicycles must respect the barriers and posted area of “no bike use”! Users who knowingly continue to use the trail will impede HPT’s ability to continue to expand our existing trail system, and will put the City of La Crosse in a compromising position with future Knowles-Nelson Stewardship Funding. It is our expectation that this issue will take 12-24 months to fully be resolved. It is critical that everyone understand that the City of La Crosse, MVC, & DNR are going above and beyond the call of duty for you as trail users in solving this issue. If you have questions, Gene Roberts and I have spent the most time on this specific issue, we are more than happy to add additional insight! PLEASE RESPECT THIS CLOSURE - FUTURE EXPANSION DEPENDS ON IT!! Respectively Submitted, Marvin Wanders HPT Board Member CLICK HERE FOR MAP

... Actually, the map only shows one end of the closure. Does the closure only affect the connection to Quarry Trail or is the entire Quarry trail closed to cycling. I'm hoping that we can still connect to Quarry via French Connection. Can you clarify? |

... Bad news for sure, but thanks to all who are helping to fix the problem. We all really appreciate it! Erik |

... I know I'm late to the thread, but we will still be able to ride the loops that are already established? For example, imberm trail and all of French Connection? I ask because a couple of years ago when this first started the "no bikes" sign went up in Imberm. |

... Glenn, I was up there Saturday and Imberm is definitely closed. I turned around and rode Skeeter down, a portion of French Connection and connected into Imberm. I rode Imberm out only to realize that I was in the center of the closed area. Oops. There were rock piles along the Quarry Trail/Imberm/French Connection intersection and I wasn't sure if I was approaching the closure from within or not. I guess I was, I didn't know. On a related note, I hope the city is prepared to deal with the damage their "closure" is going to cause. |
