Seriously....

Many areas around Wisconsin have summer road criteriums. Usually 3-5 throughout the warm months.

Other areas with extensive trail systems have friendly time trials 5-8 times over the summer months. Usually on weekends, but not always. These time trials involve a single 5+ mile loop with a one minute break between riders.

Normally times are not posted on websites, but I have seen some that are. Time trials are just a way to bring the best out in local competition and mtb camaraderie.

IMBA has some good comments about social incompatibility of mountain biking and the effects this can have on land access for all trail users. Please keep these comments in mind when using the trails. We each have a responsibility to project the best image possible at all times.

Great reminder! This is why it pays to greet other hikers and bikers when passing them in a frendly manor. I have had several conversations with people during passing that have resulted in a very positive outcome. Especially for the people that are not very familar with the area.

Incompatability might be the wrong use of words here... Timing of when a timetrial takes place might be better. They are probably not best suited during higher traffic times at HPT.

I feel there is need for this based on the fact that some people enjoy this type of activity.

Maybe with some proper planning we can figure out a game plan on how to attack this.

Saturday or Sunday mornings once a month when there is not a WORS race might be a good time. Basically anytime that general user traffic is low. As far as timing of the actual time trial. Eric from smiths has typically held them in the past, he could be a resource to ask. Roger L also does a bi-monthly road time trial and his method of timing might be rather simple.

Disclaimer: These are just ideas of compatablity here, nothing more, nothing less. If it is not your cup of tea then so be it. Also keep jacking the Negative Karma for me, it is rather funny.

I love this site!!!

Good point Chopper..... even Friday nights would be too busy for time trials. I think Sat/Sun mornings would be a good time.

Ok Chopper,

Like I told you the other night, I have never messed with your Karma. -50? Come on Gnome, don't you have anything better to do?

To Goldenboy and Chopper:

I think you have some strong points on time trials and there starting times / days. I'll have to contact Eric and have a chat. Maybe we can still work out a few friendly time trials yet this summer.

Looks like Saturday or Sunday once month would probably do the trick. My vote for June is Saturday June 27 8:00 AM. That should give us time to get the details on how it can be ran ironed out. A group effort on this would probably be needed. I might even be able to talk rachel into being a timing person for at least the first one since I am pretty sure she'll not be interested in racing. My guess is that these unoffical time trials should be held Shine or Shine (no rain).

Typically the details include:
Plan a route then trail marking (Ribon / Spray Chalk)
Official Time Keeper (Watch / Clock)
Pad of paper to write down names and times
Timing Person / People
Participants
...

Oh the reasoning for 8:00 AM is so any bike shop employees that may be interested would have time to arrive, race and get to work when completed.
