It’s time for HPT to hit the road again. Join us on Saturday July 16 as we make a road trip to Blue Mound State Park for a day of biking and hiking. The park has over 6-miles of challenging single track bike trails that will put the best cyclists’ handling skills to the test. Blue Mound also has several miles of hiking trails ranging from easy to difficult. If you just want to spend the day on a leisurely bike cruise or hike there is access to the 40-mile Military Ridge State Trail.
For those who want to make a weekend out of the trip there is some great onsite camping. The campground includes wooded sites, showers, and a pool. Campsites can be reserved online on the WI DNR website.
All vehicles entering the park will need a daily sticker pass. A daily pass is $7.00. Hikers can hike for free, but bikers need a daily state trail pass that costs $4.00.
Whether you camp Friday night or come down Saturday morning we will be meeting up near the observation towers at 12:00 (noon) on Saturday. From there we’ll split up into groups and enjoy an afternoon on the trails. HPT will provide lunch and beverages after everyone works up a sweat and appetite.
Information about camping, trails, and fees can be found at: http://dnr.wi.gov/org/land/parks/specific/bluemound/

HPT’s first road trip to Levis/Trow Mounds on Saturday May
14 was a huge success! We experienced
rain on the drive to the trails, but as we pulled into the parking lot the
mountain bike gods looked down upon us and it completely stopped. There were over 20 riders of all skill levels
who showed up. The trails were slightly
wet, but still so much fun. After a
couple hours of riding lunch was served and everyone gathered around the
coolers. Later, the hard core riders went
out for another spin on the trails while others pulled out the lawn chairs,
started a fire, and guarded the coolers until everyone returned. Some people braved the weather and camped out
while others headed back to La Crosse.
Thank you to everyone who participated! If you missed this trip stay tuned as the
next road trip is being planned for Saturday July 16.

I know it's a little late... But better late than never!
HPT's first "Ride Gala" on August 9th was a great success! We had many friends old and new come out and enjoy the trails, people and organization that make HPT great.
We started the afternoon with 5 different rides from kid's and beginners to fast and furious! Our intermediate "Middle Ring" ride was biggest ride of the day, and shortly after starting the HPT "Ride Guides" figured out that the ride would be more fun for all if they split into smaller groups to target the kind of trails that everbody would be comfortable on.
The Beginner "Small Ring" ride was also very well attended and we hope that everyone came away with more skills and more confidence to have fun on a mountain bike and enjoy the many varied trails at HPT.
The Women's Ride, Kid's Ride and the Advanced "Big Ring" ride all had smaller groups which was good to help focus on the kind of riding that each group enjoyed.
After the riding was done, everybody got to enjoy a great dinner courtesy of Ciatti's of Onalaska! The food was excellent and enjoyed by all! All of the kids from the Beginner and Kid's rides also got to pick out a toy from the "HPT Toy Box" after they were good and tired from riding.
Once everybody had gotten their fill of food and refreshments a few people headed down to Coon Valley to see HPT's very own volunteer extraordinaire Chris Bonelli play with his band "Heavy Water" at the Stockyard Grill & Saloon.
We hope everbody had a great time and hope to see you back for future HPT Events including the next Trail Fest/Ride Gala on Saturday, September 6th! |

WHEN: Saturday – Sept 6th – 3:30pm WHERE: HPT Trailhead (Directions) WHO: Everyone is Invited!
Human Powered Trails is holding ANOTHER "Trail Fest/Ride Gala" to celebrate the trails and say thanks to our many volunteers (past, present and future)!
If you have been wondering about what HPT does or how to get involved,
this is also a great opportunity to have some fun, eat some great food
and meet others involved in building better trails for the La Crosse
area.
We will start the day with a number of group rides for
every level of rider. All rides will be lead by experienced HPT
Volunteers.
The Beginner Ride (Small Ring) is a great way to learn how to ride a mountain bike, or improve your skills. There are also many other rides if you are not familiar with the trails, or just want to enjoy a group ride... No matter what your ability we'll have experienced volunteers to guide you around some of the best built trails in the midwest - right in your own back yard!
Changes from previous Ride Gala will include splitting the Intermediate Ride (Middle Ring) into additional groups based on aerobic fitness and ability; to make sure nobody gets in "over their head".
