Our next Trail Work day will focus on reclaiming a section of the Quarry Trail that inadvertently went onto private land. It's essential that this section is returned to the same condition it was before the trail was there. Human Powered Trails volunteers have done very successful and extensive trail reclaiming projects in the past.

!!! POSTPONED !!!

To all burn volunteers:
Mother Nature has not cooperated and it is too wet to burn either Saturday or Sunday.

We would like to burn on Monday evening starting as close to 5pm as we can.
We are holding Tuesday open in case it is too windy to burn on Monday evening.

Please let Jim Morgan at the Hixon Forest Nature Center know if you are available for Monday.

Thanks for your help.

One of HPT's key partners, the Hixon Forest Nature Center needs some volunteers to do a Prairie Burn. Here's the info...

We will be burning one of the prairies on a steep slope, the one at Lookout Point. Meet at the HPT Parking Lot on Hwy FA: Saturday - Apr 12, starting at 9:45am with rain date of Sunday - Apr 13 at 9:45am.

No experience necessary, we will have some experienced folks there as Burn Boss and helping and they will train you. You do need to wear all cotton clothing and leather footwear - synthetics can burn your skin. A ball cap is a good idea with hair tied back as well as a bandana to cover your mouth. Also, wear your glasses that day and not contacts. We will have equipment for you although if you have a pair of leather gloves bring them.

If you can help, or have any other questions, please contact Stephanie at the Hixon Forest Nature Center: This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it

We are going to have a Saturday trail work day on Oct. 6th. It will be from. 9 a.m. until when ever. Feel free to show up anytime and help out as much as you want.

Our goal is to get the final portion of the new trail finished. It is going to be a hard push and any help is welcome. We will have the grills going around the noon hour for some food and refreshment.
