July 3rd Cookout and Bliss Road/HPT Time Trials
roadtt.jpg
Bliss Road is a formidable climb, so to Midwesterners time trialing up it is akin to the Alpe d’Huez TT during the Tour de France. Only five riders showed up to test their mettle this night and the results were close. The course began just past the train tracks at the bottom and turned left on FA at the top. Racers then proceeded to the quarry gate, turned around in the cul-de-sac, and finished at the end of the HPT field, just before the Paulus property. Clara and Mary made up the women’s division, both smiling the entire way. Bob posted a time of 16:05, Trent a 15:37, and I came in at 14:51. Now that there’s a course record someone has to break it!

dog_ball.jpgThe HPT TT course was changed to add in the awesome new Quarry Connector Trail, so racers started at the parking lot trail head sign and rode on the road to the cul-de-sac, where they entered the Quarry Connector Trail. Following that section they rode through the pines to the Imberm Trail and followed the usual course. The conditions were beautiful! Since I haven’t ridden my mountain bike more than a handful of times this year my primary goal was to ride smooth and be safe, although I did want to catch Erik Laughing, who started a minute ahead of me. I think everyone had a fun, safe ride, and I was able to post the fast time of 41:15 on the new course. Roger was next, only about 30 seconds back.

tt_bike.jpgThe real fun began when Aaron started up the grills and handed out beverages. HPT provided some great food and a few others brought some to share.  It was great to socialize and catch up with people. Kids were riding up and down the grassy trails and playing in the skills area. The dogs were playing and getting a few table scraps. All too soon, we were witnessing a gorgeous sunset and had to start thinking about cleaning up and heading home. Thank you to Dan, Trent, Aaron, and all others who helped to make it another great HPT gathering!

Thanks for reading!
