The trail is currently snow covered and slippery due to the recent snow and freezing rain. If you are attempting to run, walk, or ride use caution. If you have snow shoes you may be able to have a good time at it they have edges to dig in.

With all the recent rain lately the trails are going to wet and slippery. The added leaves falling will make these conditions a little more challenging. If you are out on the trail be aware that it will most likely be slick. If the trail is soft and you are making an impression with your foot or tire it is probably too soft to be on and it would be best to wait for a dryer day. Thanks

Please be aware of a large tree down on "Buckthorn" trail just below where you can drop in off the La Crosse Ridge Loop. As you ride the trail, it is after you exit the "Hillpig" area, cross the grass area, go thru the buckthorn forest, and then drop down and up. It is right at the intersection where you can go out to the La Crosse Ridge Loop or continue on "Buckthorn" toward "Twister." The large tree was worked on for a couple of hours last night until it got dark. The tree is down on the ground, so should not pose a danger to those going around. However, there is another section nearby, where some branches are still stuck up in another broken off tree that needs to come down. Please be aware that this could be dangerous.

With any luck our creative trail designer types will come up with a neat way to incorporate this large stump cluster into some kind of nasty ride "treat!!" Until then, we will have to re-route around this mess !!! (frenchy)

The trails are in pretty good shape right now. Last nights rain will make it a bit slick and damp in a few spots but it should be ridable. With all the past rain it is taking a bit of time for all the moisture to come out of the ground so every time it rains it stays slick for a little bit.

I walked the trails last night and they are pretty slick. Basically hard pack with a layer of slippery mud on top making it hard to even walk. In a few days they will be firmed up enough to ride. There are also several trees down and a few small wash-outs from the rain. The wash-outs are from a lot of water running across the trail and blowing out a spot. All of which we should have repaired Monday evening. Thanks

With the recent record rainfall that we have had over the last few weeks we have temporarily closed the trials. More of a precautionary move than anything. Overall the trails have suffered very little damage but it would be prudent to stay off of them until things have dried up and we have had a chance to clear the trees and anything else that may have changed. If the weather holds over the weekend we will have the trails open for use on Tuesday the 28th. Thanks.

The trails at HPT have firmed up and are now fast and fun! We are in the process of making small improvements (as needed) on different specific areas of the trail each week. If you know of anything that needs attention, please post it in the "" area of the website, and we will get to it as soon as possible.

Finally the trails are open. Some of them are still pretty soft so the riding is going to feel really slow right now. With what looks like a dry weekend we may be able to see it firm up a little more each day. If your riding a single speed or running please use a little more thought on the bottom of the French Connection, The Abyss, and the boB trails. They are the softest out there and any hard load on the trail will cause it to bite in more.

The trail is still open but it would be wise to use some thought in your pre-ride planning. If the temperature warms up the trail is likely to very slick mud that won't be worth even attempting to ride. If you go out when it is frozen yet the trail will most likely be pretty firm. Please don't ride when it is slick for it isn't good for the trail or for the rider.

The trail is in pretty good shape for late fall riding. Most areas are dry currently but frost and morning thaws make some areas very slick especially in the low lying spots. Ride within your capabilities because the little bit of dampness with leaves makes for a surprise once and a while. Still lots of people riding and hiking. Enjoy it while the weather lasts.

Damp and leaf covered. Watch for some sections to become slick as rain continues. The trail is still ride and hike friendly but it is difficult. Please use your best judgement when entering single track.
