We now have 6 "Official" Crew Leaders for HPT!
Matt Dotta, Jed Olson, Robbie Young, Marvin Wanders, Todd Reschke & Dan Luebke all graduated from the Trail Master Certification Course offered by the Wisconsin DNR.
The course included instruction on Trail Design & Layout, Trail Construction and Trail Maintenance, as well as Crew Leader Training.
The class was taught by Mike Riter of Trail Design Specialists and was an incredible learning experience for everyone involved. Mike was very impressed with everyone from HPT that went through the class; commenting that the individuals in the class were "some of the best and most knowledgeable that he had ever taught".
Other individuals from HPT that were able to come to some of the classes included: Mike Ayers, Bruce Van Epps, Ben Spanel, Paul Woods and Luke Schuttenhelm. In the near future these individuals and other HPT volunteers will work with those that graduated to become trained as crew leaders as well. Including Dave L, Tim W and Dustin C.
Thanks to everyone involved for taking the time to learn how to Build Better Trails!

Come on up to the Human Powered Trails for trailwork, fun & camaraderie every Durty Thursday (weather permitting) throughout spring, summer, fall of 2008.
The Durty part... Each week we will decide what needs to be done and have a short meeting before work begins to let everyone know what we will be working on for the night. Work usually consists of...
- Maintenance to existing trails:
(i.e. Deberming, removing roots, clearing downed trees, weed trimming, etc.)
- New trail construction:
(i.e. Clear Corridor on new trail, establishing back-slope on mechanized work, clearing roots from new trail, clearing duff from mech work, etc. etc.)
After the Durt is done, the Phun continues...
- Volunteer raffle at the end of the night.
- Phree Phizzy Beverages
- Story telling, merrymaking, and lies.
Meet at 5:00pm - Work starts promptly at 5:30pm
BE SURE TO CHECK THE "TRAIL BUILDING" UPDATE ON THE RIGHT SIDE OF THE HOMEPAGE FOR WHERE WE WILL MEET. Click "Read More" for a map of where we meet.

Mike, Aaron and I will not be at trailwork this Thursday. We'll be HERE. So... Matt D, Bob & Matt K will be leading the effort. Thanks guys for stepping up!!!
There are 3 tasks for this week...
- Finish trimming weeds in the areas we didn't get to last week.
- Clean up, armor and reshape the Berm on the Quarry Trail.
(Aaron and I finished the initial work with the Ditch Witch on Monday night. There is plenty of material there to work with. It just needs some final tweaking to make it "more funner"!)
- Clear corridor on the 2008 Trail.
Meet at the Quarry Turnaround at the end of Hwy FA - Work starts at 5:30pm.
NOTE: There may be a some areas that still need some maintenance after the rain the last few weeks: If you know of anywhere that needs work PLEASE post it on the message board under "Heads Up!". (We can't fix it if we don't know it's broke.)

Trailwork on May 29, 2008 - Matt K,
Frenchy and I may not be at trailwork tomorrow. We are going to a
FISTA chainsaw safety certification class all day in Black River Falls. It's
pretty unlikely that we'll be back in time after putting in another
full HPT day.
However, there will still be trailwork. Meet at the Quarry entrance, at the end of Cty Hwy FA - Work starts at 5:30pm. Aaron Schmidt will be the Dirt Boss and lead the effort. ----------------------- There are 3 tasks that need work this week... Priority 1) Finish the Quarry Trail Reroute. (crew leaders: Roger, Matt D) Priority 2) Clean up the trail outslope from the mechanized work. (crew leader: Aaron S). Priority 3) Continue clearing corridor on the 2008 Trail. (?) ----------------------- PRIZES! For those of you that weren't at trailwork last week, HPT had our first trailwork giveaway! We will now have a raffle at the end of each workday.
Big thanks to Smiths Cycling and WORBA for providing the prizes! |
