Due to the rain we currently recieveing we will not be hosting trail work tonight. We will continue on our regularly scheduled work nights next Thursday (4/26).

Josh

P.S. please do not be afraid to point out issues with the trails such as dead fall trees / limbs on here so we know to take care of them.

There was a down tree on Quarry Trail just down from the MVC parking lot yesterday, just after where that other down tree was earlier this year, probably will need the saw she's a brute.

Thanks for the notice. So, are you saying to drive over and walk in from the MVC parking lot at the end of the road to get to the downed tree instead of walking in from the HPT trailer area? (I'm lazy ... ) Thanks!

By the way, we still have some spots open in the Chainsaw Training Class next Saturday, April 28th.

Contact me @ mike@humanpoweredtrails.com for more info.

Yep , it would be fastest just to walk down from the MVC parking lot it's not to far down on the quarry trail

Frenchy, I walked into the downed tree on Saturday and yes it's best to drive over to the MVC lot and walk in.

I'm not sure what the downed tree on Twister and subsequent reroute is all about... It's near the end where the difficult tree/root step-up is. My guess is the deadfall blocking the trail is a scary looking widowmaker hangin up.

Ah, thanks for the reminder on that one. I keep forgetting about it, Frenchy probably has been forgetting as well. That reroute does need to be opened back up. The tree fell late in the season last year so it probably never got removed, at least that is my guess, since there has not been talk about not removing it. If there is time maybe we'll tackle it tonight.

As of last Thursday night - 5/3/12 - this area has been cleaned up. The tree that was hung up was fun getting down ...
The easier route around is open now. Rides nice again. We will be making the tougher "root" option a second option. We will be reclaiming the easier route to the left of the "root chute" so that the two options will be: "Root chute" and the easier trail around to the right.
As this is more of a beginner/intermediate area, the "root chute" will be filled in a bit with some dirt. It will still be a challenge but more doable for more riders with a lesser skill level. This should allow riders who are trying to build their skill level to have more success leading them to try and work their way into more of the black level trails.
As one of our more famous alumni stated ... "Building better riders, one trail at a time."
Here's hoping this achieves a nice balance between technical challenge and the level of trail a feature is located on.
